What are the dates of travel?

Dates of travel are between Thursday 26th September to Thursday 10th October, during the term 3 holidays.

Depending on the availability of the tickets for the group it may + or – 2 to 3 days.

What is the cost of the trip?

The cost for the trip is $6000 per person. This rate is uniformly applied to everyone traveling with the team, including both players and supporters such as parents and siblings.

This cost reflects the comprehensive nature of the services and experiences we provide. Key elements covered by this cost include:

  1. Top-Quality Grounds: Access to premier playing grounds including under the lights, enhancing the overall playing and viewing experience. One of the most exciting additions to our tour this year is the opportunity for our players to play under lights. This is an experience we cannot readily afford in New Zealand due to higher costs associated with lighting and venue arrangements. Playing under lights offers a unique and professional atmosphere, closely mirroring the conditions of high-level cricket matches. This not only enhances the playing experience but also prepares our players for different playing environments, adding a valuable dimension to their development.
  2. Local Coaches: Expert guidance and support throughout the trip, ensuring smooth and comfortable navigation of all activities and logistics.We are investing in the engagement of local coaches in India who bring a wealth of experience and expertise. These coaches have a deep understanding of local playing conditions and techniques, providing insights that are invaluable for our players’ development. Their guidance is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing our players’ skills and understanding of the game, offering a perspective that is different from what they are used to in New Zealand.
  3. Live Coverage on Social Media: We will be covering the games live on YouTube and other social media platforms, allowing friends and family to be part of the experience, no matter where they are.This not only allows friends and family back home to follow the games closely but also adds a professional touch to our tour. The live coverage will include commentary, highlights, and player interviews, making it an exciting way for our players to share their experience with a wider audience.
  4. Engaging Local Liaison Staff: To ensure that our coaches can focus primarily on coaching and player development, we are hiring local liaison staff. These individuals will handle various logistical aspects of the tour, such as travel coordination, accommodation management, and on-ground support. By reducing the administrative workload on our coaches, we enable them to dedicate more time and energy to training and mentoring the players, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the coaching.

By incorporating these elements, we aim to provide a high-quality, all-encompassing experience that goes beyond just the basics of travel and accommodation. Our goal is to ensure that every participant enjoys a hassle-free, enriching, and memorable trip.

What does the payment cover?
  • Accommodation
  • Airfare to and fro to India
  • All food expenses while in India (does not cover your food expenses while in transit or at the airports)

  • Hutt Hawks clothing both for players and non-players

What does the payment not cover?
  • Personal shopping expenses
  • Alcohol (If you are under 18 it’s assumed you won’t be drinking)
  • Travel insurance – We may look at the option of group travel insurance that can cover covid related delays/changes to itinerary + any medical costs if diagnosed with Covid while overseas. Travel insurance is a must for all travelers. Ideally costs around $90 per person for the duration of the trip.
  • Visa expenses (Depends on nationality, quote your nationality to confirm) – $30 per traveler on NZ passport payable to Indian High Commission (Varies depending on the passport you hold). We are not able to apply for visa on your behalf and you will have to apply on your own. Step by step instructions will be provided on how to go about applying for visa.
  • Medical expenses if required
  • Vaccinations
How many games are we expected to play?

Teams will end up playing 9 days on the tour. This may constitute 5 one day games and 8 t20s depending on what the team needs most.

Under 15s – Neeraj Chawla

Under 19s – Neeraj Chawla/Ravi Krishnamurthy

We will also have local coaches involved.

What qualification do you need to be in the team?
  • The first preference is always given to the players that have been part of the Hutt Hawks or our past India tours. Where possible we welcome new players as long as you are an enthusiastic cricketer and have represented cricket at decent level.
  • Attitude, please personality and a likeable character is very much a requirement. Without these qualities the tour may not really be as enjoyable for both Hutt Hawks and the participant.
  • Hutt Hawks is a very tight knit unit and we welcome players from all around New Zealand but the criteria for selection will heavily depend on the references you can get from your past coaches.

For Under 15s: We adopt an inclusive and welcoming approach for our under 15s team. Our primary focus is on the ability and potential of each player, rather than strictly on their age. This means:

  • Age Versatility: A 12-year-old with exceptional skills might have the capability to play at the under 15s level, demonstrating abilities beyond their age group. Conversely, a 15-year-old may be at the right stage of development to play in the under 15s, continually honing their skills.
  • Open to All Players: We are open to players of varying skill levels and developmental stages. Our aim is to nurture and develop each player’s potential.
  • Age and Support Requirements: Ideally, players for the under 15s should be 12 years or older. We also require that they have a supporter accompanying them on trips, such as a parent or guardian. This ensures their safety and well-being during travel and tournaments.

For Under 19s: The criteria for our under 19s team are similar in spirit to the under 15s, with a focus on ability and potential. However, there are some differences:

  • Age Range: Players should ideally be between 16 and under 19 years of age. This age range ensures that participants are at a similar developmental and skill level.
  • Supporter Accompaniment: While it’s not a necessity for a parent or guardian to accompany the players in the under 19s category, we highly encourage it. Having supporters travel with the players can be greatly beneficial, offering emotional support and encouragement.
  • Skill-Based Selection: As with the under 15s, we assess players based on their abilities and potential. We strive to create a team environment that is both competitive and nurturing, allowing young athletes to thrive and develop.

In both categories, our goal is to foster a supportive and growth-oriented environment where young athletes can develop their skills, gain valuable experience, and most importantly, enjoy the game. We believe in providing opportunities for all players to showcase their talents and progress in their sporting journey.

Refund policy

We will only be paying an advance towards ticket booking and only be drawing tickets closest to the date of travel (45 days prior travel). If for any chance the tour will have to be called off full refund including the deposit towards ticket will be made available.

In the case of the group going ahead with the travel but only an individual and his/her family have to pull out due to covid or a change of date is required the insurance will cover the costs. If a person has to pull out of the tour very close to the date of travel, say like a day or two prior to travel then the refund baring the tickets will be provided by Hutt Hawks but the insurance will have to cover for the refund of the ticket charges.

Does the trip package include opportunities for sightseeing?

In our experience, we have found that sightseeing activities are not a high priority for most players. Given the intensive nature of the games, players often prefer to relax and rejuvenate during their downtime, choosing to spend leisure time at the hotel or in the pool. While we have attempted to incorporate sightseeing into our itinerary in the past, it generally hasn’t aligned well with the players’ preferences and their need to rest for upcoming games. Therefore, our current packages focus more on providing ample rest and relaxation opportunities rather than organized sightseeing tours.

What sort of teams will we be competing against during the trip?

Throughout the trip, our team will have the opportunity to engage in matches against a diverse range of competitive teams. This includes district and city representative teams, which are selected to represent various regions and are known for their high level of skill and teamwork. Additionally, we will be facing school teams, which are composed of players selected from specific educational institutions, and club teams, which are formed from members of local sports clubs. These encounters with a variety of teams offer a rich competitive experience, allowing our players to test their skills against different playing styles and strategies.

How long is the flight travel for the trip?

The duration of the flight travel for this trip can vary, but it typically ranges between 18 to 24 hours. This duration is dependent on the specific flight routes and any layovers that may be part of the journey. We understand that this is a significant amount of time to be traveling, so we ensure that all necessary arrangements are made for the comfort and well-being of our players and accompanying members during the flight. This includes selecting flights with the best available amenities and scheduling appropriate rest periods. Our aim is to make the travel experience as smooth and comfortable as possible, ensuring that everyone arrives at the destination refreshed and ready for the upcoming activities and games.

Which airline carrier will we be using for our flights?

At this stage, it’s too early to specify the exact airline carrier we will be using for our flights. However, our selection criteria for the airline will be focused on several key factors to ensure the best possible travel experience for everyone involved.

Firstly, we prioritize flexibility in flight scheduling. This is crucial to accommodate any unforeseen changes in our itinerary and to provide us with the ability to adjust travel plans as needed. Secondly, we look for airlines that offer a generous baggage allowance. Given that we will be carrying cricket equipment along with personal luggage, having a maximum baggage carrying capacity is essential.

In the past, our approach was to choose airlines that offered the most economical rates, aiming to keep the overall tour costs lower. However, this strategy sometimes led to challenges, such as cancelled flights and lost baggage, which in turn affected the overall experience and disrupted our cricketing schedule. Learning from these experiences, our focus this time is on selecting an airline that is known for its punctuality, reliability, and overall quality of service. We want an airline that we can count on to be prompt and on time, minimizing any potential disruptions to our plans.

The slight increase of $500 in the tour cost this year reflects our commitment to enhancing the travel experience. This adjustment in the budget is intended to ensure that we partner with an airline that aligns with our standards of reliability and service, ultimately contributing to a smoother and more enjoyable tour for everyone.

How is accommodation arranged for the tour?

    • Accommodations for the tour are primarily organized on a twin-sharing basis. This means that each room will be shared by two individuals. This arrangement not only fosters camaraderie among players but also helps in managing the overall cost of accommodation more effectively.

What is the temperature like when we visit?

We aim to take 15 players for each team that will be touring India.
